25 Years of Celebrating Autism Acceptance

Angie Tener, an occupational therapist for more than 25 years, organizes Autism Acceptance Month activities every year for The Children’s Center of Monmouth County. Educational materials from Autism New Jersey are distributed, as posters decorate the walls. The center holds bake sales to help raise money, and students make items to sell on campus. The events bring a sense of unity to the school, Angie said.

Last year, Angie accepted a resolution from the New Jersey State Board of Education on behalf of Autism New Jersey recognizing April as Autism Acceptance Month.

“I love to pour my heart into the month of April at the Children's Center of Monmouth County,” Angie says. “We love our students with autism and this fundraiser highlights that. The whole school works together to collect funds for Autism New Jersey. It is a special time for everyone. “
